Want to decorate your space at absolutely zero cost? We have three words for you: Shop your home! Look around your house for display-worthy everyday items, old things that can be repurposed, and pretty objects you've overlooked or forgotten. With some dusting and imagination, you just might find that you're already living in a house full of resources!
To start you off, here are things you likely already have at home that can double as decor -- and fabulous ones at that. Happy 'shopping'!
Heirloom plates and handed-down saucers may be too pretty to use on the daily, but they don't have to be tucked away in the attic, either. Grouped together, they can make a great wall vignette over your dining table or bed. You can also take a few dishes and add them to your current gallery wall.
Wondering how to mount plates on the wall? You have tons of easy options at the hardware store, such as adhesive discs.
Not only do books make a wonderful hobby, they also offer immediate visual appeal through their covers. You can display your volumes the traditional way, i.e. on a bookcase, and they'd look instantly classic. Or, you can stack two or three pretty books on your coffee table and top them off with a curio for a stylish tabletop (like above).
There's another option that's quite controversial: displaying your books backwards on a shelf, so that what you see aren't the spines but the neutral-colored pages (see below). Interior designers love this trick because of the cleaner look it creates. What do you think?

As kids, we were encouraged in arts class to upcycle jars by painting or decoupaging them into vases. But you know what? Some glass jars and bottles are already lovely on their own, and would make elegant decor for any grownup home. Fill them up with blooms from your garden or just wildflowers from the outdoors, and you have some inexpensive gorgeousness.
Hat and caps typically hang on the wall, so why not turn them into a stylish visual feature? Arrange your headgear with a couple of artworks for a dimensional gallery wall. Above, a pretty straw hat accentuates the neutral-colored gallery, but you can always play around with other styles. How about a sports-themed display complete with your baseball or basketball caps?

Fresh fruits can instantly add a pop of color to your dining room or kitchen. Next time you've bought some apples, oranges, lemons, or pears, don't keep them all hidden. Place a few in a bowl or tray, and display as your centerpiece.
Bonus tip: Got a cake stand you hardly ever use? Repurpose it by filling with seasonal fruits and leaves for a luscious display!

Are you perhaps overlooking a cute set of organizers that would look good on your living room shelf (above)? Or maybe you have a single catch-all basket that could work stylishly as an accent (below). See if your crates and containers fit into your decor scheme, and don't be afraid to put them out there!

Much as we'd like, we can't wear our treasured scarves everyday forever. If you have old ones you just can't part with, there are lots of ways to display them at home! Pricier silk scarves are best framed by professionals to turn them into artwork while preserving them. On the other hand, inexpensive scarves can turn into couch coverlets, pillow covers, and even table runners, as shown above by artsy DIY-er Cathy.
It's easy to give up on towels that have become too flimsy, stained, or just tired-looking from age. But you can still breathe new life into these old fabrics and turn them into useful yet decorative objects. For example, the reversible bath mat above was crafted by sewing diva Helen using two old bath towels. So fab!
Got a thriving garden in your yard? Bring some of your plants indoors for a fresh new vibe to your interiors. You can either take some fresh cuttings and root them in little planters (above) or just directly bring in one of your potted plants (below). Just make sure your indoor greenery still gets enough sunshine daily.

Cooking equipment can look cumbersome, thus many homeowners opt to stash them away in closed cabinets. But what if you could free up some storage space by letting your cookware out for everyone to see? We love a quaint, rustic kitchen with hanging pots and pans, just like above! Alternatively, you can arrange your cookware in open shelves and complement them with kitchen decor, like below.

Sometimes you get those single chairs or benches that don't go with anything else in your house. If you can't use them as a practical set, use them as accents! Chairs can work as plant stands, artwork platforms, and even side tables when styled right. Above, what used to be an odd stool ingeniously hides an outlet, turning it into an artful corner.

Your personal interests deserve to shine! Instead of storing all your collectibles in boxes somewhere, take out some of them and display them proudly. Whether they're glass globes from your travels or sea shells from a nice day at the beach, these items just might be what your mantel or coffee table needs for added appeal.
