10 Brilliant Kitchen Decor Ideas You'll Want to Try at Home

The kitchen is one of the busiest, most clutter-prone areas in the house, but it's also one where people gravitate to. It's here where you have family chitchats while preparing dinner, it's here where your house guests mill around when you're entertaining, and it may even be here where you find some therapeutic food-related activity (cooking or eating!).

It only makes sense to keep the kitchen clean, functional, and beautiful. While it may sound like a tall order to maintain all three qualities at the same time, it's actually doable! Try these decorating tips and tricks that not only beautify your kitchen but also make it comfier and more efficient.

1. Pour in lots of light.

Light is the best decorator! Wherever possible, let natural light into your kitchen for a brighter, more airy atmosphere. You'll also want to install some quality indoor lighting at strategic spots in the kitchen. This is a highly practical investment -- after all, so many important things are done in this very room.

2. Pick your color palette.

One foundation for well-designed, elegant interiors is having a cohesive color scheme. Don't know how to start? Choose one solid 'base' color, plus one or two colors to complement it. The photo above shows one of the most popular color palettes for a kitchen: It's a neutral color scheme using an eggshell-white base complemented by warm wood and pastel blue.

PS. That kitchen wall art is fortunately available here!

3. Add splashes of color.

So you've picked a reliable color palette for your kitchen. Does it feel a bit monotonous? Break away from boringness by adding several colorful elements. The cheerful wall decor above is a bright example, as it adds a dash of yellow to a plain wall and it bears a sunny message as well.

4. Serve up some art.

There's so much hustle-and-bustle in the kitchen that it's easy to just surrender to the jumble. But try this one trick that makes a whole lot of difference: clear up a bit of wall space and hang a nice wall art piece on it. Instant style!

It doesn't even have to be a pricey piece. A beautiful canvas print, like the one shown above, can be all it takes. (The example shown is customizable, and it works perfectly in the dining room, too!)

5. Sprinkle some humor.

Want to make your kitchen truly warm and comfy? Display a bit of silliness! Some of the best flashes of humor we've seen in our favorite kitchens include funny spice labels and hilarious wall signs. These harmless shenanigans are quite unexpected in such a busy room that they're all the nicer to find.

6. Display with panache.

Many of us can only dream of a spacious kitchen with plenty of sleek cabinets to hide the clutter. In reality, kitchen storage can run short, leaving us to deal with odds and ends out in the open for everyone to see. Why not deliberately display them? Pick items that can fit into your decorating scheme, then tidily arrange them on pegboards, racks, and magnetic strips. Organized and pretty!

7. Add a dose of wallpaper.

With so many lovely designs and commitment-free installation, wallpapers can make a stunningly simple interior transformation -- just remember to wallpaper moderately! In your kitchen, select a few spaces to fill with one cohesive pattern. It could be the inside of your open shelves, the doors of your cabinets, or even your back splash

8. Spice up the storage.

Since cabinets and shelves are an essential part of your kitchen, take some time to make them eye-pleasing, too. As mentioned above, wallpapering is a commitment-free decor option, but you can also try painting with accent colors, changing the finishes, or upgrading the knobs and pulls. The drawer pulls shown above are much more interesting than plain old handles, don't you think?

9. Sweeten with a saying.

We're still not over the power of kitchen wall decor! That's because we've found a few that have made us go Awww, such us the one above, which is just perfect for couples who love to bond in the kitchen. Goldilocks -- and your guests -- would be so jealous!

10. Garnish with something personal.

One of our favorite tips to make any room feel homey is to decorate it with items of personal value. There's a reason Grandma's old china takes centerstage on the shelf! Want to add your very own heirloom item? We highly recommend customized wall art. Have your family name displayed in a unique, classy, and personal piece. The canvas art  above is an inexpensive example.
