We can't deny that the global COVID-19 pandemic has put a damper on upcoming July 4th plans. Our parties may turn into intimate toasts, and public events may turn into virtual gatherings. But guess what? That's all the more reason to decorate our homes with pep! We may not be barbecuing with a lot of people this year, but the atmosphere of our interiors can still remind us of our strong, resilient, and grateful American spirit. (Plus, summer is here and that is reason enough to celebrate.)
So who's up for some July 4th decorating? We've picked our favorite decor tips and ideas that are easy, affordable, and fun!
These stars-and-stripes paper fans look so festive on walls, tabletops, and even on the lawn. They're easy to make, and the best part is, they're eco-friendly! Crafter Maggy of the Red Ted Art blog shows us how to make these ornaments.
This dining room "Gather" sign is just perfect for a Fourth of July get-together! Its cute print and color add to the pleasant atmosphere of the room, and its shiplap-inspired background is like a fresh take on the stripes motif. Our favorite thing about this wall art is that you can hang it all year round. And because it's a fade-resistant canvas print, you can even place it outdoors during a backyard brunch!
Our Independence Day celebration also ushers in the sunny days of summer, so take advantage of this season's blooms! We suggest specifically choosing red, white, and blue flowers, then arranging them in glass jars for the freshest table-toppers.
If you're looking to decorate in a more understated, elegant style -- perhaps for a private dinner or a sit-down with colleagues -- we highly recommend this personalized family monogram art. It looks classy and warm at the same time, and can grace your living room, dining area, or entry for years.
Yes, your party food can be decorative, too! Serve up a buffet table of red and blue fruits, finger food, desserts, and coolers, all arranged in the American color pattern. (Take a cue from the photo above: Just a platter of berries can evoke USA!) Add some fun accessories like tiny flaglets, star sprinkles, and printed napkins, and your table's all set!
How about an all-American welcome -- literally! With this American flag welcome sign, your home or patio is instantly ready for July 4th. It's even got an old-timey Western-inspired text font, which is just so quintessentially USA.
Putting up streamers is a super-simple way to create a photo wall, a.k.a. photo backdrop. To make it more patriotic, choose streamer strips in red, white, and blue, hang them vertically, then overlay with a star garland. Instant stars-and-stripes backdrop!
We know the photo above looks like a Christmas tablescape, but hear this out: Those red-and-white striped placemats are so versatile, they can absolutely work for July 4th, too! Plus they're incredibly easy to make, you'll even want to make another batch with blue stripes. We have designer Shelby Ferguson to thank for this ingenious DIY idea.
Whether you're gathering indoors or hosting a small barbecue in your yard, you can make the setting more homey with throw pillows. To spice up the usual color scheme, we've picked a more summery palette for you -- perfect for ushering in the sunny season. Pile on the tropical print pillow and the pink floral pillow on your couch, outdoor bench, or even on a picnic blanket on the ground. (You can get these either as fully stuffed pillows or just as pillow covers.)
Of course we can't end this list without the classic American flag! And because we're fans of personalization, we highly recommend this custom-printed USA flag art with your own family name on it. Its distressed design adds a rustic feel to it, reminiscent of the vintage farmhouses and kitchens of classic Americana.
