15 Fantastic Ways to Decorate a Beige Wall

When it comes to home decorating, a beige wall is the perfect blank canvas, right? Not always. Truth is, many of us can't deal with this ubiquitous neutral. We get paralyzed by the endless possibilities to decorate it. Or we overload it with so much decor that the wall ends up messy. Or we simply get fed up looking at it, because let's face it, this background color rarely stimulates creativity.

Whichever your case is, we got you. No need to repaint that nice wall, because we have lots of easy decor tips to make a beige wall look beautiful! Try one or two of these tricks and see how it uplifts your space.

1. Make a gallery wall.

A picture gallery or a wall gallery is already familiar to many of us, but doing it right takes some finesse. Instead of just randomly hanging pieces on your wall, remember two important tips: One, curate your pieces so they're cohesive in some way (maybe through color palette or subject theme). And two, plan the placements ahead to ensure the whole wall will look balanced.

2. Hang a wall art duo.

If you want something more minimalist than a full gallery wall, but also fuller than a single wall piece, a nice pair of artworks is your best bet. You can get wall art that already comes as a set, or match your own two pieces of art. Don't be afraid to play around with your pairings! 3. Fill it with plants.

As a visual element, indoor plants add rich color and graceful texture to an otherwise plain space. Big, showy greenery is especially appealing, so if you can, bring in a couple of indoor palms or fiddle-leaf figs. If large plants aren't suitable for the room, try grouping several smaller potted plants with a variety of heights and shapes.

4. Hang oversized art.

Large-scale art is a simple yet sophisticated way to decorate a wall, as it makes a statement without looking busy. Choose an art piece that is proportional to the size and shape of your wall, covering a large portion but still leaving lots of blank space around. And because it's a huge focal point, make sure you love the actual art!

5. Pair wall art with furniture.

One of our favorite ways to decorate is by hanging wall art over a horizontal surface like a console table, a sideboard, or a bar cart. This allows you to decorate at multiple levels: Your artwork hangs at eye level, and below it are tabletop elements like a vase of flowers, a lamp, or a couple of figurines.

6. Pair wall art with other wall decor.

Your beige wall will never be boring if you complement your wall art with other hanging ornaments. In our example below, our professionally designed family collage takes centerstage as it's flanked by wall-mounted planters. Further down is another example, where decorative sconces add vibrancy to bedroom art.

7. Put up wallpaper or contact paper.

Wallpaper remains an ingenious way to spruce up a wall, and contact paper is its cheaper alternative. Either of these two options gives you endless colors and patterns! If you're not sure about covering an entire wall, try smaller doses of decorative paper. You can, for instance, frame a large swatch as wall art. Or line the inside of an open shelf with a pretty pattern (like below)!

8. Display a metal artwork.

Believe it or not, a beige wall can instantly stand out with just one piece of decor -- and that decor is metal art! Whether it's an antique wrought-iron accent or an inexpensive laser-cut metal sign, this artform is out-of-the-box, unique, and definitely a conversation-starter. 9. Install faux trim.

Want the classy look of picture frame molding without the hefty price tag? You can fake the look! A quick Google search will give you tons of faux moulding ideas, and some are as easy as just sticking pre-made moulding onto your wall. Below, the stylish decorators at The Page Edit turned their neutral hallway into a gorgeous gallery with stick-on trim.

10. Place flowers in front.

Here's a super-quick way to liven up a plain wall: Place a showy bouquet in front of it! Vibrant flowers bring a much-needed pop of color while adding dimension to the space. Go for vivid shades like rich blue irises, bright red roses, or hot-pink carnations.

11. Add fake brick.

A textured wall is much more interesting than a plain smooth one, and thankfully, there are now tons of ways to add false textures through peel-and-stick wall coverings. False brick is one of our favorites because it looks so rustic! You can also find peel-and-stick tile and shiplap designs at hardware stores.

12. Install floating shelves.

Nothing's more practical than turning a blank wall into added storage. But to make it beautiful, opt for mounted open shelves that you can then decorate. Sure, you can store your books and mementos on there, but you can make it stylish with complementing decor like artwork, ceramics, and plants.

13. Put up a decorative mirror.

Large decorative mirrors do more than just reflecting -- they grab attention by themselves! If budget allows, get the biggest, prettiest floor mirror you can get, lean it up against your beige wall, add a plant and a rug, and voila, you have an opulent mirror vignette! If a wall mirror is more your speed, hang it right in the middle of your decor elements so takes the spotlight.

14. Make a family history wall.

Here's a more personal take on the gallery wall: Gather a bunch of your family's photos from as far back as you can get. Pick one or two pieces from every generation, frame them in the same way, and hang them in chronological order on your wall. Now you have a fabulous picture wall that tells your unique family history. What a meaningful conversation-starter!

15. Display your beloved objects.

Who says you can only hang pictures on your wall? Go ahead and hang your favorite scarves, hats, ceramics, musical instruments, or souvenirs. Some stylish decorators even hang their (clean) bicycle as a focal point! Just remember, this is a gallery wall, too, so to keep it from looking cluttered, carefully select your objects and pre-plan their layout.
